12% of TV characters are now LGBT+. (42 of them are trans)

GLAAD’s new Where We Are on TV Report – 2021-2022 states that of the 775 series regular characters scheduled to appear on scripted broadcast primetime programming for the 2021-2022 season, 92 characters (11.9 percent) are LGBTQ. This is an increase of 2.8 percentage points from the previous year.
GLAAD found 42 transgender regular and recurring characters across broadcast, cable, and streaming: 20 trans women, 14 trans men, and eight trans characters who are non-binary. 41 are played or voiced by trans actors. In addition there were 17 characters who are non-binary and not transgender.
That’s definitely progress. TV characters provides visibility and role models to young struggling queer people – also for those who struggle with homophobic and transphobic parents and peers.
