You need dysphoria to be trans

ilymlt:

You need dysphoria to be trans. You need dysphoria to be trans. You need dysphoria to be trans.

I cannot stress this enough.

You don’t like stereotypical boy/girl things? Cool, congratulations. You’re still not trans. You want to wear boy/girl clothes? Cool, you’re still not trans.

Checklist for being trans:

[  ] Dysphoria with the sex you are born with

Jesus Christ. Being trans isn’t just a game of dress up.

No, you do not need dysphoria to be trans

Trans and transgender are umbrella terms that cover a wide variety of gender variance, and have been so since the early 1990s.

And yes, this is the way it is understood by the medical establishment as well. Since “truscum” and “transmedicalists” belive so strongly in medical authorities, I will give you a few definitions of the term, as it is used by doctors, researchers and health personell right now:

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health, WPATH
“[Transgender:] Adjective to describe a diverse group of individuals who cross or transcend culturally defined categories of gender. The gender identity of transgender people differs to varying degrees from the sex they were assigned at birth”

The American Psychiatric Association (DSM-5 definition)
“Transgender refers to the broad specter of individuals who transiently or persistently identify with a gender different from their natal gender.”

(In the DSM5 the terms “transgender”, “transsexual” and “gender dysphoric”  are not synonymous. Some, but not all, transgender people suffer from gender dysphoria.)

American Psychological Association
"Transgender is an umbrella term for persons whose gender identity, gender expression or behavior does not conform to that typically associated with the sex to which they were assigned at birth.”

American Medical Student Association
“'Transgender’ is an umbrella term used by people in a number of different groups, including but not limited to cross-dressers (those who wear clothing of the other sex some of the time) to genderqueer people (those who feel that they belong to either both genders or neither gender) and transsexuals (an older term for people who take hormones and have sex-reassignment surgery (SRS) in order to transition to a different sex.“

The UK National Health Service (NHS)
"Trans and transgender are terms that are used to describe people who don’t conform to the traditional division of male and female.Trans embraces many different types of people and lifestyles, including:

  • People who cross-dress (transvestite people). These people sometimes wear the clothing of the opposite sex, but don’t want to live full-time as a member of the opposite sex.
  • People who feel that they’re both male and female, or neither male nor female.
  • Drag queens, drag kings and other people who don’t appear conventionally masculine or feminine.
  • Transsexual people. These are people who have a strong and constant desire to live and be accepted as a member of the opposite sex. Many transsexual people have gender reassignment treatment to make their appearance more consistent with their preferred gender. This often involves hormone therapy and surgery.”

None of these definitions require gender dysphoria. There are definitions of the word transsexual that require dysphoria, but this does not apply to the broader terms trans or transgender.

Arguing that trans people who do not experience gender dysphoria is playing a “game of dress up” is extremely disrespectful.

(And just to make this clear: This post is written by one who does suffer from gender dysphoria, and who wants to give room for all gender variant people to explore their sense of self.)

genderterror:

“If anyone can be a woman, what does woman even mean!?!?”

This line is so hilarious because TERFs fight against women being defined by their vaginas while in the same breath define women as being vagina-havers only. The amount of cognitive dissonance (or cissonance, if you will) is astounding.

Bigots use the ammo available. They do not strive for consistency. This is why trans-exclusionary ‘radical’ feminists (TERFs) will use – to give one example –psychiatric theories developed by sexist men still livinng the 19th century to invalidate trans women (”autogynephilia”, “transvestic fetishism”, “sissy syndrome”).

These women are driven by irrational hate, not logic. I am sure there are some really tragic life stories behind all of this, but frankly, right now, I don’t care.

Yearbook reprinted after student was excluded for wearing tux instead of dress

Crystal Cumplido decided to wear a tuxedo for her high school senior photo.

“Because that’s what I’m comfortable with,” she says.

She was shacked when she discoverd that her photo was left out of the yearbook.

“It’s like I didn’t even exist in Lincoln,” she said.

Superintendent Tom Uslan of Lincoln Unified School District claimes this oversight should not have happened. He said:

“I believe that they have been wronged in this situation and we will do everything possible to protect this student.”

Crystal is now fighting to have the yearbook republished with her portrait in it and Superintendant Uslan says this will be done.

In 1940, as the world was darkened by the evils of National Socialism, Fascism and Stalinism, Charlie Chaplin presented his masterpiece The Great Dictator.

In this movie, the main character, the Jewish baker who just happens to look exactly like the dictator Adenoid Hynkel (Hitler), makes this wonderful appeal to our humanity.

(Yes this is relevant to the struggle of all marginalised people, LGBT people included.)

The barber, who finds himself taking on the role of the dictator, says:

“I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way…

The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men - cries out for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all…”

In Russia transgender people and fetishists will now lose their driving licences

image

Trans people, crossdreamers, crossdressers and fetihsist are now banned from driving a car in Russia – at least if they tell someone about their sex or gender variance.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed into law legislation that bans people with “sex disorders” and other physical and emotional “disorders” or challenges  from driving.

This also means that transgender people are no longer allowed to drive, as these are listed as suffering from mental disorders in the international manual the legislation refers to (the ICD-10).

The Russian Association of Lawyers argues that the new law also applies to bigender and asexual people. Whether gay and lesbian people are included is unclear.

The official goal is  to reduce the number of on-road motor vehicle accidents. From a scientific point of view this makes – of course – no sense. The driving skills of transsexuals, crossdressers or  BDSM enthusiasts are clearly not inferior to the ones of the straight cis-people Putin so strongly admires.

But that is not what this is about, is it? This is an efficient way of forcing gender and sexual variance back into the closet, while at the same time making them scapegoats for all the ills Putin himself has inflicted on the Russian people.

This is fascism, plain and simple.

This is why all LGBTQA people must always be vigilant, fighting  the sexist bigots out there consistently and vigorously.

Update January 19: It seems the Russians have made a u-turn: Transgender people may keep their driver’s licences.

It’s time to act on Our Watch

Our Watch is an Australian campaign to stop violence against women and children

Our beliefs about the way boys and girls,
women and men,
are supposed to act are formed in childhood.
Around the world, gender stereotypes
and unequal power
between men and women
are the most important underlying causes of family violence.
We can stop this before it starts.
By saying no to attitudes, stereotypes and behaviours
that support gender inequality and violence.

It is time to stand up, to speak out,
to take action on Our Watch.
