Norwegian transgender girl finally allowed to play soccer on girls’ team

Nelly Larsen (15), was denied to play soccer with her girlfriends because she is transgender. In a historical decision, the Norwegian Football Association (NFF) decided that Nelly and other transgender people can play on soccer teams with people of their own gender.

“I am so happy, so happy. This I had not thought or dared to hope for,” Nelly says to the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, NRK.

In 2012, she officially changed her name from Markus to Nelly, but it wasn’t easy. She was called “it”, not “her” and was slandered and harassed.

“I was depressed and suicidal and went through a painful time. But after I told who I really am, my life is better,” Nelly says.

Nelly’s team mate, Sara (below), is happy that Nelly is now allowed to play with the team.

Bisexual Male Penguins Adopt Egg and Hatch Chick at Norwegian Zoo

The male penguins Pondus and Herman Piele hatched their first chick yesterday, at the Bergen Aquarium, having adopted the egg from a local female. They have been sitting on the egg for nearly three weeks.

The two birds have previously fathered chicks with female penguins. However, they both left their female lovers and became an item.

When a female penguin at the same zoo laid three eggs, the zoo keepers were apprehensive. The third would never have hatched without the help of the two late bloomers, they say.

Penguins chicks are often bought up by two males or two females.

Bergensavisen has more (in Norwegian).

Denmark becomes the first European country to allow legal change of gender without clinical diagnosis

image

Denmark is now the first country in Europe where a ‘Gender Identity Disorder’/, Gender Dysphoria’ diagnosis  is no longer necessary for a transgender person to be legally recognized as his or her preferred gender.

“This progressive and courageous step made by Danish MPs should set an example to the rest of Europe and beyond,” says Amnesty International Denmark’s Helle Jacobsen.

At the same time Amnesty International has started a campaign against the Norwegian government, arguing that the present system of medical gatekeepers and forced sterilization is against the human rights of Norwegian trans people.

Although Norwegians in general are LGBT positive, the system for both surgical treatment and legal recognition for transgender people is controlled by conservative doctors at the Oslo University Hospital.

It is interesting to note that their truscum-like practices are  considered  a human rights violation by Amnesty.

The US Embassy in Oslo Celebrates EuroPride With Rainbow Colors

The US Embassy in Oslo has decided to celebrate LGBT rights in a very welcome manner.

On its home page the embassy writes that

“The U.S. State Department and the U.S. Embassy in Oslo supports the struggle for equality for and against discrimination of LGBT people in Norway and the world every day. But from the 17th to the 30th of June, we will highlight this little extra.”

The Embassy is now decorated with the rainbow colors.  There will be special posters, and next week, the Embassy will host a visit by LGBT activist Beth Zemsky

Norwegians are now waiting for the Russian embassy to do the same.
